A hyper realistic oil painting on Belgian linen (3m by 1.4m)
When Peter Matthews first accepted a commission to paint a girl in mardi gras costume sitting on some steps, he was excited at the prospect of taking on a genre very different from his usual.
The size of the painting was challenging being the biggest canvas he's ever tackled, but the fantasy subject matter was also very different to Peter's previous and current work which is based in reality. It entailed setting up a studio photo shoot with the model, and creating the entire background scene from scratch. Peter also went a step further and painted the client's own son as the cherub on the wall. It took many months of painstaking detail to create the 'Forgotten Dream', which was completed in July this year.
